In 2021, Operation Liberty Hill partnered with United Way to create the Rise Up program. We work with the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population in our service area to assist clients in becoming more financially stable.
We all know people who are ALICE - these workers educate our children, care for our elderly, serve us in restaurants and retail, keep us healthy, and make our quality of life possible, yet do not earn enough to support their own families. ALICE households are forced to make tough choices, such as paying for quality child care or paying the rent, paying for a prescription or paying the water bill.
Over the last decade, the situation has worsened for ALICE, with rising costs and COVID-19. Their income is just enough to not qualify for most federal and state help. Without public transportation or universal pre-K (e.g. Head Start and Early Head Start) in our corner of Williamson County, ALICE families must pay more for transportation and child care.
Rise Up provides clients with wrap-around services, e.g. financial assistance with rent or a utility bill, help them enroll in a free GED course or job training, connect clients with employment opportunities, provide a free money management fundamentals course, encourage clients to utilize our Health Check program, and more.
